Two firefighters were briefly trapped in a building when the roof collapsed during a major fire on Wednesday night.

Fire Marshal Jim Wall reported that the department responded to a fire at the Links Apartments around 8 p.m. The blaze originated in a large structure used for storing a golf cart and other maintenance equipment.

As the fire rapidly intensified, the Texarkana Texas Fire Department and Public Works Department joined forces to extinguish the flames. A track hoe was deployed to prevent the fire from spreading and to manage hot spots.

During the incident, two firefighters from the Texarkana Texas Fire Department became temporarily trapped inside the maintenance building when the roof collapsed. Both were taken to the hospital, assessed for injuries, and subsequently released. They returned to the fire scene to continue their efforts.

Officials confirmed that the fire did not affect any nearby apartment units and there were no injuries. However, the maintenance building sustained significant damage.

The Fire Marshal is currently investigating the site and reviewing security footage from the apartment complex to determine the cause of the fire.
