As law enforcement increases its presence on Texas roads for the upcoming Labor Day holiday, drivers are urged to choose safe rides to prevent drunk driving incidents. Last year, 14 people were killed and 35 seriously injured in 334 DUI-related crashes in Texas over Labor Day weekend.

To prevent such tragedies, TxDOT is launching the “Drive Sober. No Regrets” campaign, encouraging motorists to use a rideshare, taxi, public transit, or a designated driver if they plan to drink. The campaign is part of a partnership with local law enforcement, who will increase efforts to catch drunk drivers from August 16 to September 2, aligning with a national enforcement period.

TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams emphasized that every drunk driving death is preventable. “Make sure you arrange a sober ride if you plan to drink,” he urged. The campaign also supports #EndTheStreakTX, an effort to end daily road fatalities in Texas.
