Texarkana will see new sidewalks and a shared-use path in 2025, thanks to a $1.78 million project funded by federal programs aimed at improving pedestrian safety.

The project includes a 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along Kennedy Lane, stretching from Summerhill Road to Robison Road, and then along Robison Road to Richmond Road. Additionally, a 12-foot-wide asphalt shared-use path will extend the Cowhorn Creek Trail from Kennedy Lane to Richmond Road.

“This project will provide safer access for pedestrians to schools, work, recreation, and community destinations,” said Katie Martin, TxDOT Atlanta District’s Director of Transportation Planning and Development.

Construction, handled by THK Construction LLC of Longview, is set to begin in February 2025 and will take about 11 months to complete
