Texarkana’s city governments have approved a joint redevelopment plan for the historic Union Station landmark.
The Texas side has applied for a grant from the Department of Transportation’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement Program and is awaiting a response.
Both cities are contributing $200,000 each to the project. If the grant is awarded, Amtrak will provide additional funding.
Union Station holds historical significance as railways played a key role in the creation of Texarkana. Renovating the station will support downtown revitalization efforts.
