The United Way of Greater Texarkana launched its 101st season today, continuing its mission to support local communities. The organization partners with several local agencies, including Opportunities Inc., Randy Sams’ Outreach Center, Texarkana Resources, and the Harvest Regional Food Bank, across nine counties in the Texarkana area.
This year’s fundraising goal is $900,000, with all donations staying local. The organization believes this target is achievable if everyone donates just $5.
“Usually, 20% of people do 80% of the work, but we need everyone involved this year,” said James Bramlett, President of Farmers Bank & Trust, a local supporter. “Even a dollar from each person in the community could raise over a million dollars.”
United Way is also offering to make presentations to businesses to encourage participation. “We’d love to come out and share more about what we do,” said Mark Bledsoe, President of United Way of Greater Texarkana.
The next major fundraiser is the annual NAIFA Golf Tournament, scheduled for October 1st.
