Wadley Regional Medical Center Wins Multiple American Heart Association Awards

Wadley Regional Medical Center has earned the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke GoldPlus quality achievement award.

Wadley Regional Medical Center has earned the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke GoldPlus quality achievement award. This award recognizes Wadley’s dedication to providing stroke patients with treatments based on national, research-based guidelines, ultimately saving lives and reducing disability.

Additionally, Wadley received the American Heart Association’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll award. This honor is given to hospitals that quickly treat stroke patients with thrombolytic therapy after arrival.

Wadley also received the Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award, which ensures that patients with Type 2 diabetes get the most current, evidence-based care during a stroke hospitalization.

Dr. Steven Messe of the American Heart Association praised Wadley, noting that participation in the Get With The Guidelines program leads to better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates.

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a major cause of disability in the U.S. Early detection and treatment are crucial for survival and recovery. The Get With The Guidelines program helps hospitals follow the latest stroke care guidelines, improving patient care.

Dr. Khalid Malik, Wadley’s Stroke Program Director, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to stroke care, noting their advanced diagnostic tools and 24/7 in-person neurologist availability. He stated that the awards reflect Wadley’s dedication to providing timely and effective stroke care, helping patients lead longer, healthier lives.

Every year, hospitals in the Get With The Guidelines program qualify for awards by demonstrating their commitment to quality stroke care and patient education for managing health post-stroke.
