Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The Alaska DMV announced that it will be the first in the country to make translucent polycarbonate driver’s license and (ID) cards available.
It’s a new generation of laser-engraved card technology for enhanced security protection. They’ll be available this fall and can’t be altered without physical damage to the card.
They have a range of advanced security features designed to make them both highly secure and difficult to counterfeit. One is a translucent corner of the card as well as semi-translucent windows that allow clear visibility into the card’s structure.
Additionally, the cards will incorporate updated UV ink on both the front and back, which makes counterfeiting them hard.
The new licenses and ID’s come at no additional cost.
