Construction Pauses for Memorial Day Weekend, Resumes May 28

JUNEAU, Alaska (KINY) – Construction operations will come to a halt for Memorial Day weekend, providing a respite from the ongoing roadwork from Friday, May 24, to Monday, May 27, 2024. Work will recommence on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

During the week of May 27, construction activities will focus on several key areas. Milling operations are tentatively scheduled from Lawson Creek bridge to 1,100 feet south of Cordova Street. Motorists are advised that parking will be prohibited on either side of the highway within this work zone during active construction periods.

Culvert work will persist on both sides of the highway, enhancing drainage and reducing the risk of road flooding. Additionally, work on the road shoulders around Lawson Creek bridge will continue, aiming to improve road stability and safety for drivers.

Drivers should anticipate the presence of heavy equipment and be prepared for lane shifts. These changes are necessary to accommodate the ongoing construction efforts and ensure the safety of both workers and the traveling public.

The construction project is part of a broader initiative to improve road infrastructure and ensure long-term durability. Travelers are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and remain vigilant for construction signs and personnel.

For more information and updates on the construction schedule, residents can visit the city’s official website or contact the local Department of Transportation office.
